Performing a Hard Reset on a Palm Pre 2

A full reset is sometimes referred to as a hard reset. Perform a full reset when you want to clear all settings, programs and data from RAM.

Caution if you perform a full reset, your Palm unit returns to its default settings and looses all information that is not recorded in ROM.

To perform a hard reset:
  1. Open Device Info.
  2. Tap Reset Options. You'll see the following screen:
Do one of the following:
  1. To erase any applications you installed from App Catalog, as well as any information associated with those applications: Tap Erase Apps & Data twice.
  2. To erase all files stored in USB drive storage, such as pictures, videos, and music: Tap Erase USB Drive twice.
  3. To erase both your applications and USB drive storage files, as well as information about your Palm profile: Tap Full Erase.
  4. If you want a clean erase of your currently installed apps and files but plan to continue using the phone, tap Full Erase again. If you plan to give the phone away and you do not want your data and files to be recoverable even using a third-party tool, tap Secure Full Erase.

Caution be sure to save any unsaved data before performing a normal reset since a normal reset erases all unsaved data.

To perform a soft reset:
  1. Remove the battery from your Centro, and then reinsert it. Don’t know how? See Replacing the battery.
NOTE The reset begins when you reinsert the battery.
  1. At the end of the soft reset, Date & Time Preferences appears. Select Done.

  2. When the Palm logo appears, press and hold Up until the black status bar at the bottom of the screen fills and disappears, and then release Up .
  3. Delete the third-party application that you suspect is causing the problem.
  4. Perform a soft reset. The wireless features of your Centro are not available until you complete this step.
To perform a hard reset:
  1. Remove the battery from your Centro, and then reinsert it. Don’t know how? See Replacing the battery.
  2. When the Palm logo appears, press and hold Power/End until the black status bar at the bottom of the screen fills and disappears, and then release Power/End .
  3. When the Erase all data? prompt appears, press Up . to confirm the hard reset.
IMPORTANT If a Reformatting in progress message appears, do not touch your Centro until the process is complete. This may take up to 10 minutes.
  1. When the language selection screen appears, select the same language you selected for your desktop software.
IMPORTANT Always use the same language for your Centro, your computer operating system, and your desktop software. Otherwise, you may lose information or have difficulty with synchronization. Support is not provided for mismatched language setups.
  1. (Optional) If you want to confirm that the hard reset was successful, immediately afterward, press Applications and select HotSync
If your device name appears in the upper-right corner, the hard reset was not successful.

Palm Treo 750 Hard Reset

Performing a Normal (Soft) Reset on a Treo 750

A normal reset is sometimes referred to as a soft reset. A normal reset stops all running applications but does not erase any programs or saved data.

Caution be sure to save any unsaved data before performing a normal reset since a normal reset erases all unsaved data.

To perform a soft reset:
  1. If your smartphone responds to key presses, press and hold Power/End to turn off your phone.
  2. If the screen display is on, press Power/End to turn off the screen.
  3. Open the expansion card slot door on the side of your smartphone.
  4. Use the stylus tip to gently press the reset button next to the expansion card slot.
  1. Wait for the progress bar on the Treo logo screen to fill before continuing to use your smartphone.
Performing a Hard Reset on a Treo 750

To perform a hard reset:
  1. Synchronize your smartphone with your computer so that your smartphone applications and info can be restored by synchronizing again after you perform the hard rest.
  2. Open the expansion card slot door on the side of your smartphone.
  3. If the screen is off, press Power/End to wake up the screen.
  4. While pressing and holding Power/End , use the tip of the stylus to gently press and hold the reset button next to the expansion card slot.
  5. Continue pressing and holding both buttons until the “Erase all data?” prompt appears.
  6. Press Up to confirm the hard reset.
  7. Wait for the progress bar on the Treo logo screen to fill before continuing to use your smartphone.
  8. (Optional) Synchronize to restore yourpreviously synchronized info. If you us a backup utility, you may also need to restore a backup to recover additional info and settings.
Palm Treo 755p Hard Reset

  3. When Date & Time Preferences appears, then release Up .
  4. Delete the third-party application that you suspect is causing the problem.
  5. Perform a soft reset. (The wireless features of your device are not available until you complete this step.)
To perform a hard reset:
  1. Remove the battery from your device.
  2. Press and hold Power/End while reinserting the battery.
  3. When the Access Powered logo appears, release Power/End
  4. When the “Erase all data?” prompt appears, press Up . to confirm the hard reset.
  5. If a “Reformatting in progress” message appears, do not touch your device until the process is complete. This may take up to ten minutes.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions to align the screen and set the date and time.
  7. (Optional) If you want to confirm that the hard reset was successful, press Applications and select HotSync (If you see your device name in the upper-right corner, the hard reset was not successful. If you do not see your device name, then the reset was successful.)
  8. Sync to restore any previously synchronized information.

  3. When the system screen appears, release the top scroll button.
To perform a hard reset:
  1. Press and hold the power button on the top of the phone.
  2. While holding down the power button, use the reset tool (or similar object without a sharp tip) to gently press and release the reset button.
  3. When the system screen appears, release the power button.
  4. When a message appears on the phone screen warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your phone, do one of the following:
Note: With a hard reset, the current date and time are retained. Formats Preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings.

A full reset is sometimes referred to as a hard reset. Perform a full reset when you want to clear all settings, programs and data from RAM.

Caution if you perform a full reset, your Palm LifeDrive returns to its default settings and looses all information that is not recorded in ROM.

To perform a hard reset:

  1. Slide the power switch to the right and hold it in that position.
  2. While holding the switch to the right, use the tip of the stylus (or a similar object without a sharp tip) to gently press and release the reset button on the bottom of your device.
  3. Wait for the reset screen to appear, and then release the power switch.

During the reset process, a status screen appears with the words “Quick Erase”or “Secure Erase” and a progress bar, followed by screens showing the palmOne, Palm Powered™ and LifeDrive™ logos.
